the beginnings of garden 2.0

I wanted to show the beginnings of my new garden. Our internet isn't up yet so I'm doing this from my cell phone. Talk about dedication!

I think we will be putting a couple of raised beds back here. Since we are renting we don't want to do too much but I have to have something! I've been growing a few tomato plants and pepper plants. Its been pretty chilly so they're not nearly as big as they should be but I'm happy to have them. I also just bought some onion plants and strawberries. Hopefully we'll get to make some progress today on the beds so we can get this show on the road and it can really start to feel like home.

Wow! A lot more space out back. You make your dad happy growing your own food.

Thanks raelene! The back yard is so much bigger than our old yard. It would have been perfect for the chickens. Oh well. The kids are super excited to have so much space. I'm only going to do container gardening this year I think. Hopefully that will satisfy my gardening needs enough.

You are so amazing! Look at your addiction--I mean, dedication! I held off gardening for several years because we are renting, but finally, it's like, "No, this is still home, and our family life includes a garden!" Besides, you never know how long you'll be there.

Lookin' good! And your landlord can't *possibly* object to container gardening.

Are you doing Heirlooms? What kinds of tomatoes? I can't *wait* to get into a real house -- hopefully we'll be in in time to get some veggies going this spring.

Speak to me of urban chickens ... you weren't zoned for them when you had them, right? Or not right?

Thanks Mom! Yes I am doing heirlooms. I have Brandywine, Isis Candy, Amazon Chocolate, Indian Stripe and German Johnson going plus a couple hybrid kinds.

As far as the chickens go, we were zoned for them it was our HOA that had the problem with them. So as long as none of our neighbors complained, we were fine. I loved having chickens. They were so much fun and so easy to take care of.

I doubt your landlord would object to gardening the curbed area as long as you don't leave it a mess. pull back that rock, amend that soil and start planting! Good luck!
